While in Entebbe, the Primate Handshake group worked with three of Uganda’s major wildlife conservation organisations, the Chimpanzee Sanctuary & Wildlife Conservaton Trust (CSWCT), the Ugandan Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC) and the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI). UWEC and JGI-Uganda as well as other NGOs helped create CSWCT and came together in 1997 to help manage Ngamba Island, the island sanctuary for orphaned chimpanzees.

When the Handshake moved on to Kibale Forest National Park we were lucky enough to work with the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), learning about their conservation initiatives as well as their involvement with the local communities.

The Handshake teams were given the privilege of lending their skills towards the overall objectives of these four organisations. Follow the links on the main Uganda Research page to learn more about our research involving these organisations.
