Chimp Eden is South Africa’s 1st and only chimpanzee sanctuary. Not being indigenous to South Africa, the chimp has found an unusual home at the Jane Goodall Institute. Set on a 1000 Hectare game reserve, the Jane Goodall Institute Chimp Eden has been caring for lost chimpanzees for several years.
Objectives
The goal of Chimp Eden is to rescue chimpanzees that have suffered the effects of hunting – be it for the illegal pet trade, or medical research application. The sanctuary provides the chimps with a home to live out the rest of their lives, and the necessary attention needed to recover from the trauma they have suffered.
Handshake’s Input
The Handshake are in the process of organizing how best we can support Chimp Eden. Having visited the sanctuary last year, this year’s South African Handshake will provide opportunity for us to commence our work with Chimp Eden.
