Whilst we have been staying in Tzaneen we met up with Lisa who works at the VMF. She has started a new project designed to encourage enrichment and stimulation between humans and vervet monkeys. Lisa has begun editing some of her work and has been making effective videos to support her scheme.
When the Handshakers and I sat around the campfire last night having our dinner, I made a proposition to the volunteers to shave off all of my hair to help raise money for the new software Lisa needs. For anyone who knows me, knows that this would be a big thing, especially as I have never shaved my hair off before. Everyone was really keen on the idea and I managed to raise 1,600 rand.

Before the Handshake began I proposed to shave my head to raise money. However I was unable to follow it up. Following in the vain of Alan who had recently shaved his head, Alasdair and Steve who are both lacking in the hair department, I decided if I could raise money doing it, I might as well experience a shaven head whilst I was here.

To be honest it felt a bit like a weird scene from some film like ‘The Beach’ as, by the flickering light of the campfire, Steve’s wild face decided to take up the task. Everyone watched and of course Greg filmed. It took some scissors and two electric shavers. For a short while I had a Mohican, but eventually it all went. So now whilst typing this with a woolen hat on my head, it is surprisingly not too bad.

After the event people huddled around to watch ‘Into the wild’, as some people pointed out I used to look like the main character when I had hair.
