Volunteer Profile: Katherine Stansfield

Katherine Stansfield

With a background in communications, Katherine was inspired to come on this trip through a love of conservation and an interest in digital media. Not put off by the expected lack of familiar facilities (and spiders), she is motivated by the desire to experience new cultures, learn new skills and discover new perceptions.  Her initial impressions have not disappointed as she is impressed with the welcoming attitudes of the people and the departure from the atmosphere she usually encounters, the sights and sounds being highlights.

Even after two days of the trip Katherine is thinking ahead and anticipates further trips in a similar vein. She finds the opportunity to be part of the project more involving and rewarding than seeing the country through a tourists eyes and is encouraged by the amount of returning participants and the positivity of the volunteers from the very beginning.  Katherine is also excited with the possibility of seeing chimps and gorillas.

In the future Katherine hopes to use what she has learned here to advance a career in communications but also to achieve an active role in conservation using these skills.
