We began today with a Capoeira work-out session, courtesy of Simon. Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art which originated during the time of the slave trade. The slaves were forbidden by their owners to practice martial arts and so devised Capoeira which looks like a cross between a dance and a game but can still be lethal when blows are actually administered. It was surprisingly strenuous, especially for those of us who had not done handstands or cartwheels since primary school.
Afterwards we settled down for a long work day. All the films the team have been working on are coming together, and the first pages are going up on the education and anthropology websites. It’s the hottest day we’ve experienced so far in Uganda and the thatched work area is the best place to be.
Tomorrow we’re all hoping to head back to KAFRED to have a look around the wetlands sanctuary. We’ve also been invited to the house of acclaimed primatologist Julia Lloyd who will doubtless prove a fascinating source of information and insight.
