We arrived at our new campsite next to UWA headquarters in the dark last night, thrilled by the hot showers. On waking up this morning, we realised that the slope on which we are pitched overlooks a beautiful crater lake, surrounded by wooded hills.
This morning it was back to work after our safari holiday and we colonised the campsite’s thatched seating area with laptops. In the afternoon, a small group of us set off for Kasiisi Primary School to gather more information, interviews and footage. However 20 minutes down the road Nox decided it was all too much and broke down. Luckily Wilfred, who works at UWA, was in the nearby town of Fort Portal and rescued Sophia, Leslie, Lucy, Katie, Eileen and I whilst Gaynor, Laurence and Steve stayed with the truck. However, as usual Steve managed to coax Nox back to camp and we’re just waiting for new parts before we’re back on the road.
Since we’re out of gas we’ve been cooking on a wood fire and last night Steve baked bread and strawberry cake in the embers. Stodgy and sweet, we ate it crowded around the fire pit, wrapped in jumpers as the moon glowed through the thick, blue-grey cloud.
